Congratulations to André Gaumond

Congratulations to André Gaumond who won first prize: Best Feature Screenplay for his script "Zakis" at the Angel Film Award Monaco International Film Festival.

Congratulations to André Gaumond who won an Honourable Mention at the Orlando Hispanic Film Festival 2008, last October, for his screenplay "Cuba la diva", a musical dramatic comedy.

François Séguin and Éric Canuel win at the Jutras.

François Séguin has won his second Jutra Award for best Art Direction for his work on Silk. His first Jutra was awarded in 1999 for the "Red Violin"

Éric Canuel picked up a Jutra for the "Most successful film abroad" for his work on "Bon cop Bad cop".

Phil Comeau, Director member has been named Knight of the order of Arts and Letters for his extraordinary contribution to culture in France.

In November 2006, Oliver Martin, the French consulate for Maritimes Provinces, Director member, Phil Comeau, with the Knighthood of the Order of Arts and Letters. This is an honorary decoration made by the French Minister of Culture.

Phil Comeau directed the first Acadian television series, "La Sanguine" (2006), which is broadcast Sunday evenings on Radio-Canada.

Tim Southam and Guy Lalande win Gemini Awards.

Tim Southam picked up a Gemini Award for Best Direction in a Performing Arts Program or Series for "Perreault Dancer".

Guy Lalande won Best Production Design or Art Direction in a Dramatic Program or Series for his work on "Human Trafficking".

Awards were announced on October 18, 2006 and will be televised on Rogers Television on November 18, 2006.

Christian Duguay, Guy Lalande, and the Guild team win Directors Guild of Canada awards for "Human Trafficking".

At the Guild Awards on October 14 in Toronto, the Muse, RHI production of "Human Trafficking" garnered three prizes.

Christian Duguay won Outstanding Achievement in Direction - Television Movie/Mini-Series Award. Guy Lalande won Outstanding Achievement in Production Design - Television Movie/Mini-Series Award.

The project also won Outstanding Team Achievement in A Television Movie/Mini-Series Award.

The Guild congratulates Christian Duguay, Guy Lalande,Irene Litinsky, François Sylvestre, Sandrine Gros D'Aillon, Michael Williams, Erik Ajduk, Réal Proulx, Panos Partheniou, Nadia Fortin and Daniel Leclerc for their work on the show.

Alain Zaloum wins Jury Prize at Southern California Festival.

On September 17, Alain Zaloum won the Jury Prize for his film "C'est pas moi c'est l'autre" at the International Film Festival in Temecula Valley, near Hollywood.

Helene Klodawsky's "No More Tears Sister" nominated for two Gemini Awards.

"No More Tears Sister", a feature documentary by Helene Klodawsky, has earned two Gemini nominations:  The Donald Brittain Award for Best Social/Political Documentary Film and Best Photography.

It also won the Spirit of Freedom Award at the Jerusalem International Film Festival this summer.

"No More Tears Sister" by Helene Klodawsky wins documentary prize at the Jerusalem International Film Festival 2006.

The documentary prize for the Wim van Leer "In the Spirit of Freedom Awards", given in memory of the husband of festival founder and director Lia van Leer, went to Helene Klodawsky's "No More Tears Sister", about a former Sri Lankan revolutionary who begins to fight for an end to the conflict in that country.

QDC Director Honored at HOT DOCS

QDC director André-Line Beauparlant was honoured at HOT DOCS with the award for Best Direction in the Canadian Spectrum Programme (Feature Length) for "Little Jesus", a profoundly intimate and emotionally articulate work that examines her own family's response to the birth of a severely disabled child.

The QDC has been invited to participate in the Forum metropolitain de l'industrie cinematographique an industry-wide colloque on the state of the Montreal industry. The forum is widely expected to recommend that a non-profit para-public orgainization be formed to promote Montreal. It would be funded by SODEC and the city of Montreal.

The Forum is to take place in late November.

The QDC and the ARRQ (Association des réalisateurs et réalitrices du Québec) have submitted a joint brief to the committee reviewing the mandate for Télé-Québec. Read the brief on-line here. (In French only)
